UPSC - CSE is a three stage exam.
1) Preliminary exam
2) Mains exam
3) Personality test
Preliminary exam: This exam consists of two papers.
a) General Studies.
b) CSAT (Aptitude Test)
Both papers are objective with negative marking
The persons who reach the cutoff marks, are eligible for mains exam.
Mains exam: It consists of nine papers of descriptive nature.
They are 2 - language papers* , 1 - Essay paper, 4 - General studies papers, 2- optional papers.
(* 1 - language paper for North east persons.)
The persons who clear mains exam are allowed to attend personality test.
Personality Test: In this phase, the persons personality will be examined rather than book knowledge. It is an oral test for 250 marks.
Based on both the mains and personality test, merit list will be released. (as per the vaccines)
